We absolutely love crafts and DIY and everything that has to do with those two. But there are so many posts out there, how do you know which ones are the best ones to follow? This is why we compiled this post of Brightech’s Top Crafting Bloggers in 2019.

Let’s dive in.

Melissa Caughey from Tilly’s Nest

About: I come from a career in medicine. I’ve been a nurse practitioner for the past twenty years. I never in a million years thought that keeping a flock of chickens would be in my future. Well, almost 7 years ago, a peeping package of six little fuzz balls arrived at our doorstep and I have not once looked back. I have always thought of my home as a nest for my family, a place filled with love and nurturing where new life, ideas, creativity, and relationships emerge. Over the years, this nest has become quite a place. The chickens were the gateway to expanding our vegetable gardening efforts. They unlocked a passion for the locavore movement. They made me want to cook and serve their eggs and grow our own organic produce. They connected us with the earth and our natural surroundings. I started beekeeping and became a Master Gardener. I have lots going on here at Tilly’s Nest and you certainly might find me in some other places on the internet such as HGTV, DIY Network, Community Chickens, Keeping Backyard Bees, Angie’s List, Grit Magazine and Country Living Magazine. I served as the technical editor for the book, Gardening with Free Range Chickens for Dummies. Over the years, my website has won some wonderful awards, have met amazing people, and been on an incredible journey of growth. Since starting Tilly’s Nest, I’ve become an author and have released two best-selling books– A Kid’s Guide to Keeping Chickens and How to Speak Chicken.

Nikki from Fluorescent Beige

About: I’m Nikki- an artistic, sassy, craft peddling twenty something. Being crafty is a lifestyle for me and I try to bring my creativity into everything I do. I may be short in stature, but not on creativity. I am a Wyoming native, born and raised.  I studied scenic design and painting from the University of Wyoming, and after college, moved to Denver with my other half. I soon found myself working in an unlikely setting for an artist- a library. For six years I designed and crafted displays for my neighborhood branch. I now stay home to raise my daughter full time and attempt to blog  about my creative endeavors part time.

Mary Beth from The How-To Home

About: My earliest memories are of ‘doing’…. gardening, sewing {learning on an old Singer from the 1940’s}, helping my Dad build our house {I’m sure he didn’t mind one bit!?!}
painting, crocheting {I used a big plastic needle and taught myself….oi}, using my knit magic {loved that thing} to make everyone scarfs {okay…they were tubes that looked like colons}, saving scraps of whatever to make stuff later {I hate to waste}, starting my own family newspaper {I got a kids typewriter for Christmas one year and used carbon paper for the copies}, and some other stuff along the way. I don’t have much time to create now but the feeling of wanting to create…needing to create…has never been stronger.
Most days I just look to see what others are creating and making mental notes of what I want to do and sometimes I actually do it!

Amy from Leap of Faith Crafting

About: My name is Amy and I started blogging in 2016 from the Sacramento, CA area. My mission is to inspire others to be creative and to show you that everyone can be crafty! I am not an expert, I am just like you!! I did not go to design school or take a ton of classes, I learned like you are… by reading blogs, books and watching others! In fact, I graduated with a Biochemistry degree and went on to be an Optometrist, so I am very math and science oriented. So if a 40 something retired Optometrist can be crafty and use power tools, so can you!!I am an introvert by nature. I am a homebody. I love to craft (obviously!!) and personalize things. I love giving heart-felt and customized gifts. I have been married for almost 16 years to an amazing man. I have 3 very different and awesome kiddos – 14, 12 and 7 year olds. I love dogs. I am a Christian. Family is the most important thing to me. I hate flying. If I could have one superpower, it would be the ability to teleport.

Keri Lyn from She Saved

About: Joy and sunshine seeker🔆Saver of Money, memories, moments. For 12 (TWELVE!!) years I’ve been the gal behind the computer here at She Saved. It’s been quite a ride and I’ve loved every minute. She Saved has been the foundation for sharing my passion for frugal living. On this journey I’ve learned that it’s not always about saving money. It’s also about saving time and sanity by researching your choices as a consumer and selecting and supporting the brands that offer the things you value most because you work hard for your money. It’s about quality over quantity. It’s about products that stand up to the test of time. It’s about spending your time and energy on the moments (and people) that matter most. It’s about making the life choices that best feed your soul and help you to be the very best version of yourself. Unapologetically.

Herchel Scruggs from Gym Craft Laundry

About: I love to do crafts with and for my kids. My crafting philosophy is that the less money I spend and the easier the craft, the more I love to do it. I also enjoy the challenge of creating professional looking items with objects that I have around my house. As you can see, I love upcycling cans and jars. So if you have a stash of tin cans or spaghetti jars hanging around, a stack of scrapbook paper, modge podge or other decoupage medium, and a good finish like Minwax’s Polycrylic is all it takes to come up with some pretty gift worthy craft projects. I live in Jacksonville, Fl with my husband and two kids. My son, Pork Chop, is 8 years old and bossed around by my 7 year old diva, Pea. After years of being a military spouse then a government contractor’s wife, my husband is finally home “for good.” Here at Gym Craft Laundry you’ll find mom hacks, homemaking tips, fitness, and easy crafts! Not a crafter? Don’t worry, we share the ideas and give you easy instructions so your children will never know.

John Bloodworth from Gentleman Crafter

About: My name is John Bloodworth and I am, like you, a craft enthusiast and have been so for over 30 years. People often ask me “what is your favourite craft”.  If I am honest, I don’t have one.  The thing that I love the most is the creative process, the discovery and learning of techniques and always trying something new (to me at least). Through this blog I hope to share that journey with you as I bumble my way through all sorts of creative projects and experimentation. I also hope that you will share your experiences with me, and the other readers of this blog. As you can tell, my journey has been a long one, over thirty years in fact. So, when I say that I am still experimenting I must explain that it’s important for me to keep up to date with techniques and find new ideas as my career is one in which I cannot stand still. Having said that, many of my favourite creative past-times will make regular appearances! I have previously worked as a TV producer for Create and Craft TV – the world’s original 24 hour TV channel dedicated entirely to creative past-times creating over 10,000 hours of TV about arts and crafts in my time there.  I am now engaged in a variety of activities including demonstrating arts and crafts on Create and Craft TV, designing my own range of digital products and have also recently completed the All Counties Craft Challenge. My work life and personal life are rarely in balance so I am often very busy, or taking time out – I will however try and endeavor to keep some form of regularity within my posts on this blog.

Pennie from Mother Natured

About: As a working mother, I know how hectic life can get, how easy it can be to push nature play down the list of priorities as more urgent tasks take up our attention. But I know in my heart, as you know in yours, that children need quiet time to recharge, need the room to stretch and the silence that holds space for their creativity to develop. Time in nature is essential to your child’s wellbeing. Nature play promotes creativity, gross and fine motor skills and builds resilience. The supporting evidence is growing.  My secret hope though, is that by raising nature-connected kids we’re going to encourage a generation that will love and protect the natural environment. I believe that every child deserves a connection with their natural world and I’m here to help you make that happen for the children in your life. That’s what gets me up in the mornings—my passion for finding ways to make it as easy for busy parents and educators to get kids having fun in nature. I hold an Applied Science degree in Wildlife Biology because I love animals, and a graduate diploma in Education because I want to do the best job I can of teaching kids about nature. I’ve been a zookeeper, a wildlife education officer and an environmental educator, and I combine all the knowledge and skills of those roles here in the activities I share and the tools I create for you.No matter whether you’re just starting out on your nature-loving journey, or you already get more ‘green’ time than screen time, there’s plenty to inspire you here.

Trisha from Trisha Lyn

About: I’m Trisha, more formally, Trisha Lyn Fawver.  I live in San Leandro, California with my husband Dominic, pug Pixel, and cat Muse.  I am a self-taught maker, marketer, graphic designer, and photographer, among many other things!  The skill I use the most here – writing – is not entirely self-taught; I hold a degree in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in Dramatic Writing from Humboldt State University.  Here at TrishaLyn.com I blog about my life – crafts, pets, my many manicures, photography, career, beauty, style, and whatever else tickles my fancy.I started this blog in August 2007 to help fellow newbie marketers and bloggers through their struggles in getting started with their career and to share some tips of the trade that I’d picked up. Peppered in is commentary on online marketing news, notes from conferences I attend, and a little bit of myself shared with the readers.  That’s what you’ll find in the archives.  Along the way it has become much more personal in nature, and in the last few years I’ve focused more on my life.  If you’re interested in my affiliate marketing career bona fides, you can check out my Blinkstar Media site.

Maura from Happy Deal Happy Day

About: Prior to my life as a frugal lifestyle and crafting blogger, I was a high school science teacher for 8 years. I decided to say goodbye to teaching so that I could be home with my 2 amazing daughters. When this blog started, it was just a hobby blog that I worked on during my kids naptime. I was all about sharing amazing deals I was finding and tips on how to save money. Overtime, this space has evolved into posting less daily deals and more general money saving and budgeting tips. I also like to share easy and frugal recipes and expand on my creative side sharing DIY and crafting ideas. This blog has now grown to be my own work from home job – and I couldn’t be happier than to build a supportive, creative and frugal community with you! I have a weekly newsletter that I try to keep light hearted and fun – and share with you both frugal tips and crafting inspiration.

Susan from Crafting a Family

About: I am so glad you found my blog. The most stressful part of the day for a mom is at 5 PM when all the kids are hungry and you are exhausted. The last thing you want to do is stand in the kitchen for an hour. This has been me for 20+ years as a mom of three I have a lot of great suggestions for you to try out. I want to help you out so you can spend this time of the day with your family, hugging, laughing, and creating. I love to create with cooking or crafting or just sitting on the couch hugging and talking about our dreams. I also, like you, want to have time with my children where we are not watching screens. I want to help you explore the many benefits that simple crafts can teach. Crafts expand the mind and develop physical skills. Crafting brings moms and little ones close together physically and emotionally. Just remember it’s not the end product that matters but the journey together. I make healthy traditional meals, quick and easy, hands-free as possible. I want to help you spend this precious time of the day interacting with your kids and partner and not alone at the stove. Each week I will share my recipes, crafting and home tips. I live in Ohio with my husband, we have three grown children, two daughters and our youngest a son. I love to garden, cook, sit on the beach and most of all visit Disney World.

Morgan & Sean from Charleston Crafted

About: We blog here at Charleston Crafted to share with you our experiences on transforming our first home into our dream home. We’re also empowering you to try DIY by showing you easy ways to make a huge impact in your home. We have a beautiful young son named Luke, a beagle named CiCi Sabathia, and a fluffy grey cat named Bear Grylls. From 2012 to 2016, we lived in a two bedroom condo. We started this blog in 2012 to share the projects that we worked on while decorating and living in that condo. You can see the whole condo tour here. It was a hobby and we really found our passion. In July of 2016, we sold our condo (for a huge profit!) and bought our first house. It was a bit of a fixer in that the bones were great, but we wanted to take down a few walls and in general bring the home into this decade and our style with DIY projects and design. We turned this blog into a business featuring these projects and bringing them to you. Our biggest single remodel is definitely our DIY Coastal Kitchen. We did so many projects in our kitchen and completely transformed it. We try to give you easy ways to make a big impact on your home, like extending your fireplace or swapping out balusters. But we also share bigger projects, like whole room makeovers such as our laundry room or our nursery, or building projects, like our kitchen table, our coffee table, wooden lanterns or midcentury modern side tables.

It’s my mission to help you minimize toxins, and create a sustainable healthy lifestyle, so you can become the best version of yourself. For many years I’d poured myself out, trying to create a healthy, happy home for my family, but it had taken a toll on me. I was exhausted from working so hard, trying to protect my family from every toxin in the universe! Exhaustion, guilt, and worry followed me like a cloud. I became bedridden with shingles. Soon after I ended up in the doctor’s office with an autoimmune diagnosis. I’m not going to lie: things got worse before they got better. Eventually, I realized the only way to thrive was to simplify.

Eileen from The Wooden Palate

About: The Wooden Palate was founded by Ryan Silverman (wood-worker to the stars) and his wife Eileen O’Dea (chef and yogi turned wood-worker). Eileen and Ryan design every board to last forever. Each board is tested for integrity by Ryan in the woodshop and further vetted by Eileen in the kitchen before sent to production. The Wooden Palate was born of the belief that every kitchen and home needs more bespoke wood pieces and that every chef should love the board on which they serve their creations.

Heather from Thicketworks

About: I’m just a person who loves to make things. To experiment with texture, pigment and form. All the time. Sometimes I can’t sleep, the thicket of ideas that lurks in my head is so enticing. My mission is to share every bit of what I learn with YOU! A few years ago I was working in a corporate job, making decent money. I enjoyed my co-workers, and took pride in excelling at my work…BUT, I found the corporate environment to be utterly soul crushing. There was SO much of who I was that could NEVER be expressed there. I looked around and saw myself surrounded by bright, interesting people whose life force was being consumed by meaningless cubicle drudgery while the years slipped by. Attempting to adapt to that environment had left me depleted, stressed and with failing health. In fact, I credit creativity with saving my sanity and my life. It was through reading, drawing, singing and ‘make believe’ that I created a refuge in the midst of childhood trauma. When no other human being was there to keep me safe, I turned to the world of the imagination to experience relief. As the decades passed, and life stabilized, I focused on career to the exclusion of almost everything else. The healing and nurturing force of creativity was set aside in an attempt to be ‘normal’.

Jennifer Henberger from Deals Among Us

We live about 1/4 mile from the beach on the coast of Southern California in North County San Diego! I love being able to give away the products that I find and love hearing my winners thoughts! I have been couponing, freebie getting, and reviewing for the past 15 years. I find it empowering that we can have an opinion that is heard by companies! I love to review products and help people save, and spend their money and time on what works and what is of value. My main passion is saving money and when you do spend that you are an informed consumer. I am an avid crafter and up-cycler, and try to find deals on items I can up-cycle and recreate into something great!

Laura from JUL Designs

About: I’m a designer and the owner of JUL Designs, a company I started in 2007 in a basement, like so many other creative businesses. Now that my son has gone to college, I run the US-based side of JUL out of my home in an old textile mill worker house, built in the 1830s just downriver (on the Patapsco River) from the historic Oella woolen mill in old Oella, a small community that is part of historic Ellicott City, MD. I have been a maker, a designer, and an artist for as long as I can remember, drawing all the time as a kid, setting up a darkroom in the bathroom (my poor family), learning to weave on a loom my father made from a wooden orange crate at 5, spinning and knitting at 7, and making all of my own clothes from the age of 14 until I went to graduate school at 26.

Suha from Swedish House Crafts

About: As you may know, Swedish House Crafts was born in 2016, but actually I have been a crafter since 12 years ago. My style has always been different, harshly criticized but if you know me, you know for sure, I don’t care what people say. So you are like that.Since childhood, my teacher noticed my talent. Growing up, my lifeboat sailed across other seas. So once I landed in Sweden in 2007, I got my hands on what I thought will be my hobby. Never seemed to stopped me ever from running after what I thought “this is the end”, nothing will stop me other than fate. So you think like that.I have tons of ideas as in business and art, neither my hands nor my day & night hours are enough to fit them in. That doesn’t mean I put them in the garbage, rather, every idea has its time to bloom.

Flora from Urban Domestic Diva

About: I know there are people out there, like me, trying to balance a lot of things at once in this crazy world. We do this while still trying to enjoy the more home spun, well-crafted, home-made things that bring joy and comfort to any home and family. Oftentimes, people meet me in my high powered career role (a creative ad exec in the big city of Chicago) and would never know that my proudest accomplishment is not a Telly I won for a TV spot but being a finalist in the Williams Sonoma Pie Contest! As a woman, we play so many roles every day. It’s not easy. It takes a lot of juggling, some short cuts here and there, a loving and helpful husband and a TON of coffee. I am first generation Italian, my parents came here in the 60’s. My earliest memories of a kitchen was me holding a wooden spoon in my hand, sitting at the base of my grandmother’s stove while she made red sauce. I learned very early the importance of family, food and wine. My grandfather grew tomato plants in tomato cans on the roof of the apartment building on Taylor Street in Chicago. He took me up there only once in a while, which was such a treat. I thought I could reach heaven! It felt we were so high up! I also remember him walking me down to the dank, musty basement to grab a jug of his homemade wine for dinner. The wooden wine press sat stoically in the middle of the floor, smelling of fermentation and faintly of old grapes. This proved to be a rich tapestry for my creative life as well as my love of food, wine and gardening. But I did not know it at the time. I have been truly blessed by having this foundation in my life.

Victoria from A Modern Homestead

About: Hi y’all! My name is Victoria and I’m a born and raised 10th generation Texan raising the next generation in Central Texas with my husband of 12 years and our 3-year-old son. I have a long list of skills I like to dabble in from time to time that varies from canning food, to weaving my own cloth, and of course knitting! But mainly, I love keeping my home and pantry to the standard that my grandmother did before me; Homemade and Real. In 2015 (after 10 years of marriage, what a long wait!) we welcomed our little boy into the family and made the decision that I would leave my job as a kindergarten teacher to stay home with him. As amazing as that was, it only lasted a short time… In January of 2016 my husband lost his job and our sole source of income disappeared overnight. It was terrifying at first, as I was afraid that I would lose the opportunity to stay home with our son. But it has turned into the biggest blessing we could ever imagine! Because we were able to work hard, save money, and live frugally, we had the chance to completely change our lives! Today we both work from home and are blessed to be bringing in more money for our family than we made together both working for other people! Now through my blog, I get to help others learn more about how to live a frugal and simple lifestyle while making money online so they can pursue the lives they’ve always dreamed of!
